SNAPSHOT PHOTO CONTEST - AWARD FOR THE BEST NATURE PICTURES

Together with the Basel energy supply company IWB and the Fotohaus Basel, the Natural History Museum was holding the SNAPSHOT photo competition. The seventh edition was a great success: more than 1,100 submissions from amateur photographers reached our museum. An independent jury honoured ten images from each of three categories and awarded the podium places. Photographs with a focus on biodiversity were honoured by IWB. Last but ot least there was also a Public Prize awarded. The 34 photographs can now be admired in an exhibition at the museum until 28 June 2026.

A high participation rate was recorded for the seventh edition of the photo competition: we have received 1,151 submissions from all regions of Switzerland and abroad since last autumn. Only amateur photographers were eligible to enter, and they could submit one picture in each of the categories «Plants, landscapes, natural phenomena», «Animals in their habitat» and «Children see nature» (children aged 5 to 12).

The Snapshot photo competition took place as part of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year special exhibition.
